Children’s Medical Services International (CMSI) uses the diverse resources of our contributors and the skills of our volunteers to support healthcare for children in underdeveloped countries. Our current focus is on providing medical services, supplies and equipment to benefit children’s healthcare in Jamaica.
CMSI never dictates. We work with local health care providers to identify their needs. CMSI volunteers then petition hospitals, doctor’s offices and individuals to donate critical items. Our volunteers evaluate the condition and prepare them for shipment. The items are delivered without charge by the USAID Agency/Denton Foundation. Our volunteers facilitate the education and training necessary to insure the local healthcare providers can use the equipment for its greatest benefit.
CMSI also coordinates a range of clinical services to medical facilities. These services have included surgical consultations, mental health assessments, clinical evaluations, and associated pediatric treatments. A recent effort has been undertaken to address the need for crisis intervention training for local law enforcement.
Our medical professionals freely share their expertise through lectures to residents and medical staff, and by attending local medical association meetings and conferences.
CMSI has expanded our mission to provide assistance to the Westhaven Home, a facility in Jamaica that cares for children with severe disabilities who are either orphaned or whose families lack the resources to meet their needs.
We welcome new volunteers. Volunteers need not be clinical specialists; we can incorporate anyone’s skill sets into our programs in the United States or in Jamaica. If you are interested in volunteering and having one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have, contact us. The children will always welcome your help!
